1945: another view of Burnham Park

You can probably identify the skating rink, at the upper left-hand corner. Any ideas, whereabouts would be the location of the photographer while taking this photo?

A 1945 photo of Manila

This photo is dated 14th February, 1945. There are visible plumes of smoke in the background, as well as the Quiapo Church. Photo: US Archives, part of the collection of the Bureau of Insular Affairs.

Glee Club. ca 1959.

Talented. Dorks. Gorgeous. Gifted. Adorable. These are descriptions of GLEE, but could very well be the BCHS GLEE CLUB. This photo was taken around 1959 unless there are opinions to the contrary. Please help to identify the lovely guys and gals in this photo, the bulk of which came from class 61 and class 62. Evelyn('61) and Aurora('62) have tried their hand and magnifying glasses to place names to faces but you probably would have a memory bank that is of larger capacity and greater efficiency and more pixels.

So try your hand at peering at these faces of yesteryear (50 plus or minus years!) and let us know your guesses or educated deduction: stories alongside would also be most welcome! For instance, I remember that my mother sewed the Filipina dress I am wearing in the photo, only to discover at the very last minute that the left sleeve had the fabric print inside out: too late to make satsat, so I had to make do. I can assure you it did not affect my singing. Let’s hear from you!

We sub-divided the one photos into photo A and photo B to enlarge the faces for ease of identification. (The photos are being run simultaneously with Class 62's blog)

1945 - year of your birth?

(Click on photo to enlarge) This is the scene of Baguio when you were being pushed out of the womb (maybe). Perhaps most of Class 61 members were born in 1945. Here is a photo kept at the US Archives, part of the collection of the Bureau of Insular Affairs. It shows a number of bombed-out ruins, to be reconstructed in later years. Luneta Park, where the old Pines Hotel stood and now SM, would be on the upper left corner. Do you remember that big gash on the hill, opposite Baden Powell Hall, as you walked from City High to upper Session Road? It was already there in 1945, as you can see.

So this is what Burnham Park looked like when you were a tiny tot or a newborn.
